报告题目:Spin polarization and correlation in heavy-ion collisions

【报告摘要】

Local orbital angular momentum or fluid vorticity was predicted to lead to quark spin polarization in non-central heavy-ion collisions. The experimental observation of the global hyperon polarization indicate an extremly vortical quark-gluon plasma (QGP) in heavy-ion collisions.  Recent experimental data also show a strong phi vector meson spin alignment which can be explained as a result of a short distance correlation of fluctuating strong-force field. If such strong-force for strange quark exists in the late stage of heavy-ion collisions, it will also lead to spin-spin correlation of final state hyperons such as Lambda-(anti)Lambda. I will discuss such spin-spin correlation and its implications for the properties of GQP.

 

【报告人简介】

Xin-Nian Wang, a Boya Chaired Professor, Director of Institute of Particle Physics and Central China Center for Nuclear Theory, obtained his PhD from University of Oregon in 1989. He worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) and Duke University before he become a Divisional Fellow at LBNL in 1992, a Senior Scientist in 1997. He was the the Head of the Nuclear Theory Program during 1999-2007 and Manager and Co-Spokesperson of the DOE JET Collaboration in 2010-2015. His research interests include high-energy particle and nuclear physics, especially in searching for the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) in high-energy heavy-ion collisions. His recent work focuses on hard probes of QGP, relativistic hydrodynamics and applications of machine learning to high-energy nuclear physics.  He was awarded Natural Science Award (second prize) by the Chinese Academy of Science in 1991, the Outstanding Overseas Young Investigator by Natural Science Foundation of China and Changjiang Visiting Professorship by Ministry of Education of China in 2000. He was elected a Fellow of American Physical Society in 2002, won Polish Ministry of National Education Award jointfor Outstanding Team Research in 2003 and Humboldt Research Award in 2024.
